Call Admission Control in IEEE 802.11e EDCA-based WLANs

چکیده
The random access MAC protocol of WLANs is a key aspect in the actual rapid deployment of WLANs. However, the lack of a hard centralized control of the transmission resources, complicating an efficient implementation of QoS mechanisms without losing the inherent advantages of the distributed access scheme. To solve this difficulties, the EDCA IEEE 802.11e proposal has been released but, critical aspects like admission control and resource scheduling are to be solved and therefore, require further research to find optimal parameter configurations.

A Measurement-Aided Model-Based Admission Control Scheme for IEEE 802.11e EDCA Wireless LANs
The IEEE 802.11e standard was introduced to overcome the lack of QoS support for the legacy IEEE 802.11 WLANs. It enhances the Media Access Control (MAC) layer operations to incorporate service differentiation. However, there is a need to prevent overloading of wireless channels since the QoS experienced by traffic flows is degraded with heavily loaded channels. An admission control scheme for ...
متن کاملCall admission control for IEEE 802.11 contention access mechanism
This paper proposes an admission control algorithm that enables the upcoming IEEE 802.11e contention based Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) to provide quantitative bandwidth guarantees for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), rather than a relative prioritized service. The algorithm estimates the throughput that flows would achieve if a new flow with certain parameters was admitted, ...
متن کاملOn Enhancing a Hybrid Admission Control Algorithm for IEEE 802.11e EDCA
Call Admission Control is one of the main mechanisms allowing an efficient protection of active flows, especially on a wireless network using a distributed access scheme as is the case for IEEE 802.11e EDCA. We proposed in a previous paper [5] a hybrid admission control algorithm (based on analytical model and on measurements) for EDCA which have proven to perform well when compared to another ...
متن کاملThroughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories
IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...
متن کاملDesign of QoS and Admission Control for VoIP Services Over IEEE 802.11e WLANs
Supporting telephone services using wireless LAN as the access network is an emerging service. The SIP and IEEE 802.11e are perhaps the two most promising protocols to support such services. In this paper, we show how to integrate SIP and 802.11e to conduct call admission control and resource reservation to support VoIP’s QoS in IEEE 802.11e WLANs. Besides, we also suggest some adjustments and ...
